The Sophisticated Analytical Instrument Facility (SAIF) in Guwahati, sponsored by the Department of Science & Technology (DST), Government of India, was established in 1986 during the Seventh Plan as a National X-ray Facility in the Department of Instrumentation & USIC (University Science Instrumentation Centre) at Gauhati University.

The primary objective of SAIF Guwahati is to provide a modern and sophisticated analytical facility to researchers and the scientific community, fostering an instrumentation culture. SAIF Guwahati comprises sophisticated X-ray instruments, is an open facility, and serves the needs of researchers and the scientific community from academic, research, and industrial organizations.
