ISRO's Regional Academic Centre for Space (RAC-S) at Gauhati University

Groundbreaking Collaboration Since 17th July, 2019

Establishment & Vision

ISRO's (Indian Space Research Organisation) Regional Academic Centre for Space (RAC-S) at Gauhati University was established following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between ISRO and Gauhati University on 17th July, 2019.

The centre aims to foster excellence in space research and academics, supporting collaborative projects, advanced research, and building capacity in space science and technology for the Northeast region.

Initiation & Key Figures

The initiative to set up the academic centre was led by GU's former Vice Chancellor, Dr Mridul Hazarika. It originated after his meeting with Dr K Kasturirangan, former Chairman of ISRO, who had visited Gauhati University to deliver the 27th Convocation address.

MoU Signing Ceremony

The historic MoU was officially signed on 17th July, 2019 by Dr P V Venkitakrishnan (Director, CBPO, ISRO) representing ISRO, and Prof Nani Gopal Mahanta, Registrar (i/c) on behalf of GU, in a special ceremony. Faculty members, scholars, and representatives from nearby universities and institutes witnessed the occasion.
